Women have been at the forefront of photography since its inception, but even today, their contribution to the field is often overlooked. So today, we’re taking a minute to celebrate our favorite females behind the lens who are killing it in art, lifestyle and fashion photography.

Cindy Sherman
She’s been collected by MOMA, dated David Byrne and is recognized as one of the worlds most influential contemporary artists. A leading photographer for over 30 years, Sherman is star of her own work, pioneering the #selfie before most of us knew the concept existed, using media, magazine, art history and internet to source themes in a provocative exploration of contemporary identity.
