Philippe Starck is widely recognized as the world's leading designer of luxury restaurant, hotel and real estate properties. His work with Le Meurice and Le Royal Monceau in Paris, The Delano in Miami, Felix restaurant at The Peninsula Hotel in Hong Kong, the Teatron in Mexico, the Hudson in New York, the Faena hotel in Buenos Aires, Bon restaurant in Moscow, and Volar nightclub in Shanghai, has forever changed the hospitality experience.
In 2005, he signed an exclusive agreement with sbe for the design of its restaurants and lounges in North America; the agreement expanded in 2006 to include hotel properties. Starck's first sbe project, Katsuya by Starck, opened that year. His designs shaped an entirely new paradigm of luxury hotels with the 2008 opening of the SLS Hotel at Beverly Hills, the first in the new SLS Hotels brand.
Born in Paris, Starck developed his eclectic style at a young age. While many of Starck's masterful creations are exhibited at the world's most prestigious museums, his primary goal has been democratic design which focuses on the creation of smart and useful products that are also beautiful and cutting-edge. Starck works with leading names to develop product lines that enhance everyday life-intelligent objects that are filled with humanity such as Microsoft's Optical Mouse and the Miss K table lamp.
As sbe expands into the Miami, Las Vegas and New York markets, so too does its partnership with Starck. The opening of the SLS Hotel South Beach will herald Starck's long-awaited return to Miami.
