Synopsis:
MARTIJN (Ryan Phillippe), an idealistic Dutch pianist, travels
to Morocco to help start a food program for malnourished children.
Within moments of his arrival, however, Martijn is abducted
by a group of terrorists, injected with a debilitating drug,
and imprisoned.
Under threat of death, the young man engages in a mental chess
match with AHMAT (Laurence Fishburne), trying to learn his captor’s
true objective and avoid a horrible fate. His brutal capture
forces Martijn to question everything (and everyone) that has
brought him to Morocco, including GAVIN (Colm Meaney), a loutish
guide whom he just met and SAADIA (Touriya Haoud), the girlfriend
who encouraged his decision.
Ultimately, there is no easy escape for Martijn. He must face
Ahmat and solve the puzzle of his captor’s circular questions.
It is a game that costs Martijn one finger at a time –
a dear price to pay for such a gifted artist. What does Ahmat
really want? And at what point does Martijn reveal his true
identity and risk losing more than his fingers?
